How to IGL in Solo Queue: Communication, Mid-Rounding, and Mental Reset

Solo queue lobbies are notoriously chaotic. When five strangers with different playstyles, egos, and communication habits are thrown together, games often devolve into silent, disorganized 1v1 duels. To achieve a high win rate, you must step up and become the In-Game Leader (IGL) your team desperately needs.

This leadership guide covers the art of concise communication, decisive mid-rounding, ultimate tracking, and mental de-escalation in ranked matches.

1. The Art of Concise Communication

When comming in solo queue, less is more. Screaming "He's over there, he's one HP!" clutters voice comms and panics surviving teammates. You must deliver clean, actionable intelligence.

The Flawless Comm Formula:

  • Location + Agent + Damage: State the exact map callout, the specific agent name, and exact damage dealt (e.g., "Jett, B Boathouse, hit 120").
  • Intent Calling: Announce your utility usage clearly before deploying it (e.g., "Flashing out B Main in 3, 2, 1").
  • Post-Death Silence: Once you deliver your death comm, mute your mic immediately. Let surviving clutching players hear game audio without backseat gaming.

2. Decisive Mid-Rounding & Defaulting

If your team rushes A Main five rounds in a row and gets stopped by a Cypher tripwire every time, morale will plummet. You must call defaults to gather map control and force enemy rotations.

  1. The 1-3-1 Default: Spread your team across the map to probe defensive setups, break Sentinel traps, and bait out early utility before committing to a bomb site execute.
  2. Calling the Rotate: If your B Main probe draws three enemy defenders, immediately call a decisive rotation to the weakened A site.

3. Tracking Enemy Ultimates & Economy

An elite IGL acts as the team's tactical computer. During the pre-round buy phase, hit your scoreboard key (Tab) and analyze the enemy team's ultimate status and financial economy.

  • Ultimate Warning Calls: Warn your team about game-breaking ultimates before the barrier drops (e.g., "Careful A Main, Raze has Showstopper active, play back").
  • Economy Prediction: If the enemy team is on an eco round, warn your duelists not to take close-quarters 50/50 fights where enemy Judges and Stingers excel.

4. Managing Egos & Mental De-escalation

If two teammates start arguing over a lost clutch, the game is in jeopardy. Step in immediately with calm, positive reinforcement (e.g., "All good guys, winnable round, let's focus on economy next"). Never participate in toxicity.
