The Ultimate Post-Plant Guide: Lineups, Time Management, and 2v2 Retakes

How many times have you successfully taken a bomb site, planted the spike, and then lost the round because your team took unnecessary 1v1 duels against rotating defenders? Post-plant situations require a complete mental shift from aggressive clearing to passive time denial.
This masterclass guide breaks down the exact positioning, utility management, and psychological warfare required to secure post-plant rounds flawlessly.
1. The Geometry of Crossfires
The moment the spike is down, your team's primary objective is to establish crossfires. A crossfire occurs when two defenders hold the exact same entry chokepoint from opposing angles.
Setting Up Flawless Crossfires:
- High/Low Setups: Have one player hold from ground level while another holds from an elevated box (e.g., A Heaven and A Site on Haven). The entering enemy cannot aim at both elevations simultaneously.
- Bait and Trade: One player jiggle-peeks to draw enemy fire while the second player wide-swings to secure the free trade kill.
- Never Stack the Same Corner: If two players hide in the exact same cubby, one enemy Raze grenade or Sova dart will destroy your entire defense.
2. Lineup Meta: Killjoy, Viper, Sova, and Brimstone
Playing post-plant lineups from across the map is the most frustrating tactic to play against. When executed correctly, it leaves defenders with zero counterplay.
- Time the First Molly: Do not launch your molly the moment you hear the defuse tap. Wait 3.5 seconds (half-defuse time is 3.75s) to maximize time waste before deploying your incendiary.
- Combine Utility: Pair a Viper Snake Bite with a Poison Cloud orb. The decay effect from the smoke makes the molly deal lethal damage instantly.
- Protect the Lineup Player: If you are the lineup player standing in B Main, ensure your flank is covered by a Cypher trip or a trailing teammate.
3. Defending Against the Fake Defuse
In 1v1 or 2v2 retakes, defenders will frequently tap the spike defuse sound to bait you into peeking out of cover. You must maintain absolute discipline.
- The Jump-Peek Check: Instead of wide-swinging the spike, perform a quick jump-peek around the corner to visually confirm if the defuser is actually sticking the defuse or holding an angle.
- Spike Sound Queue: Listen closely to the pitch of the spike beeping. As the spike nears detonation, the beeping frequency increases dramatically. Use this auditory rhythm to calculate exactly how much time the defuser has left.
4. Retake Denial: Playing the Clock
If the spike is ticking fast and you are in a 1v2 situation as the attacker, you do not need to kill the enemies. Simply jiggle-peeking, throwing a smoke on the spike, or firing warning shots through walls will force them to hesitate long enough for the spike to detonate.
